Four tackle slot 60s in one round. Willem Drew, Jack Steele, Sam Berry, and James Rowbottom all landed on the magic number, which means ten different times an opposition midfielder ate carpet for each of them. Under DDHP scoring, a tackle is worth the same as a goal — and this is the round that proves the system has lost the plot. The AFL itself spent its first century not bothering to record them at all. A goal is the entire point of the sport. A tackle is, on the average week, a bloke putting a bit of pressure on. They are not the same thing, and any scoring system that treats them as equivalent is going to produce weeks like this one, where four players post identical monster scores doing essentially the most repeatable defensive action in the game. Two thrillers: Flannie beat Corio by four despite Steele's 60, and Fitzroy edged the Boner by one despite Rowbottom's 60. Luke Davies-Uniacke posted 48 from the interchange for Fitzroy — actually winning a match for once with a tackle-heavy score. Big interchange numbers landing on the wrong side of the result is a DDHP tradition, like Asuka coming out, looking unbeatable for ten minutes, then getting rolled up out of nowhere. Western Suburbs Walkabout thumped Cazzu by 73 to stay second. Sainta's Sinners thumped Coolgardie, Kysaiah Pickett bagging 54 from the tackle slot — adding to the round's tackle-fest. The Cheats held off Fabulous Phils, who put up their best score in weeks and still lost. Jordan Dawson scored 54 from the interchange for the Phils, which is the kind of week that should win you a match. Sometimes the bench numbers turn up and the rest of the squad forgets.
